Cermaq launches sustainability report with change in reporting format

With this report, Cermaq is changing its sustainability reporting to meet the new mandatory requirements in EU regulation (CSRD) from 2025.

This year’s report covers 15 months, the calendar year 2023 and the first quarter of 2024, as Cermaq change reporting period to financial year from April 1st till 31st March from next year on.

“The CSRD framework is based on a double materiality analysis, covering impacts from the company and impact towards the company on predefined indicators. This will make it easier to compare companies”, says Chief Sustainability Officer, Lars Galtung.

“For us, fish health and welfare has become the core priority, In the report we describe our preventive approach as vaccination, screening and monitoring in each of the operating regions, Norway, Chile and Canada, says Galtung.

Cermaq also presents its actions to limit the global temperature with 35 % from 2019. The emissions from Cermaq’s own operations have been reduced with 10% per ton from 2022. Cermaq will develop an updated climate transition plan towards 2030 in the coming year.

Feed constitutes a major part of the impact of salmon farming, various aspects of feed impacts appear across many chapters as the chapters are aligned to the EU standards. Marine resources, purchase of all feed ingredients, waste management, fish health, and workers in the value chain, to mention a few where feed has an impact on outside stakeholders.
